Disney managed to remake Merida from Pixar’s Brave to look like a red-haired Barbie and will put her into their princess toy collection looking like this. Slim waist, lower dress, more gold, even more wavy hair, definitely made to look older and where the f… is her bow! Gone is the wild tomboy who I liked so much.

I’m not the only one annoyed by Disney’s makeover. Over 200.000 people have signed a petition to make Disney retract their new Merida. Brave Director Brenda Chapman says this about it: “When little girls say they like it because it’s more sparkly, that’s all fine and good but, subconsciously, they are soaking in the sexy ‘come-hither’ look and the skinny aspect of the new version. Merida was created to break that mould. To give young girls a better, stronger role model, a more attainable role model, something of substance, not just a pretty face that waits around for romance.”

Disney definitely needs BRAVE people to counteract their existing narrow minded sexist view of women.
